In the research group Numerical Mathematics in Applications we design and analyze numerical methods for the discretization of partial differential equations. The different projects include all aspects starting from modeling, analysis, numerical approximation, optimization and efficient implementation of methods on high performance computers.

Unsere Methoden finden Anwendungen in verschiedenen Disziplinen, in der Medizin, den Naturwissenschaften oder den Ingenieurwissenschaften. Oft ist es so, dass die wirklich interessanten mathematischen Problemstellungen direkt aus der Anwendung kommen.
Die Mitglieder der Arbeitsgruppe sind in verschiedene Projekte eingebunden, die teilweise durch die DFG, das BMBF oder direkt von der Industrie gefördert werden.
