Exercises
Content and Literature
Subject of the lecture are the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The lecture covers both the mathematical theory and the numerical approximation based on the finite element method. Knowledge in the theoretical and numerical treatment of partial differential equations is required.
The event consists of three parts. In the usual lecture, the theory of fluid mechanics is introduced and, if necessary, aspects of the finite element method are repeated. In addition to the special requirements of the discretization of the Navier-Stokes equations, the lecture also focuses on various applications.
The exercises consist of both theoretical and practical parts. Here we give an introduction to a scientific simulation software, which can be used to directly implement the learned techniques.
Literature will be announced during the class. Parts of the class will be based on parts of these lecture notes. Stabilization of transport dominant flow is covered in Finite Elements II.
