Fluid-Structure Interactions
Contents
The subject of the lecture is the modelling and numerical analysis of fluid-structure interaction problems. These problems occur, for example, in the flow around elastic bodies (ships, aeroplanes, wind turbines) or the flow in elastic vessels (e.g. blood flow).
The particular difficulty lies in the coupling of two different models: the Navier-Stokes equations for the flow and a (non-linear) elasticity equation for the elastic structure.
In the first part of the lecture we will discuss the modelling of the coupled problem. We will also discuss the theory of the equations and their special features.
Later we will turn to the discretisation of fluid-structure interactions. The numerical solution of discrete problems is very complex and requires advanced methods.
